Turkish soap boosts visits to Istanbul’s Topkapı Palace

Popular Turkish soap opera Muhteşem Yüzyıl (The Magnificent Century) which recently hit the airwaves has increased the number of domestic visitors to Istanbul’s iconic Topkapı Palace according to reports.

Thanks to Muhteşem Yüzyıl (The Magnificent Century) which presents events that occurred during the reign of Süleyman the Magnificent, the palace has attracted the attention of domestic tourists even though it has also angered conservative circles who say the show misrepresents and degrades the life of the sultan.

Figures show that a total of 68,916 people visited Topkapı Palace in February last year compared to double that number who have already visited the location in the first 15 days of February this year.

Has the show prompted you to visit the palace which was the official and primary residence of the Ottoman sultans for approximately 400 years of their 624-year reign?
